Five of Australia’s best spots to take a dip

Don’t forget, water is dangerous. Take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety, and especially — don’t drink and swim.

Gunlom Falls, NT

Sitting pretty in the world heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, Gunlom Falls provides the perfectly cooling combination of pristine fresh-water pools to swim in and idyllic waterfalls. There’s also a well-equipped picnic area that’s home to shady gum trees. If you’re feeling up to it, take the climb to the top of the waterfalls for a sweeping view of the national park.

Brighton Beach, Vic

A short drive from Melbourne’s CBD, Brighton Beach offers visitors a reasonably protected ocean swim. We recommend grabbing a spot on the beach early, as it tends to be popular with locals on a hot day, but there’s always plenty of space to swim and cool down in the water. Enjoy the colourful beach boxes while you’re there!
